This deck can accept BOTH miniDV and standard size DV tapes. There is no need for an adapter. It also plays Dvcam. The analog part of this deck can record both S-VHS format or VHS format. Buttons and controls on the machine are in English or are icons that are recognizable. It ships with the WV-DR7 Manual - which is essentially the same unit.
